G is for Games!
There is usually a lot of down time with camping. Instead of having kids that are saying they are bored, bring out the board games for you, them, everyone to play together! There’s nothing like gathering together around a table with some munchies and enjoying some family time together. There are classics games with a deck of card like Go Fish and Old Maid or you may want to bring a board for Checkers, Backgammon or Chess. However I wanted to share some favorite family games we have played together and I would definitely recommend.
Product Description: You’ll be aMAZED in this intriguing game. Use the Labyrinth board design to create a series of mazes players must move through. The objective is for each player to collect all seven treasures on their treasure cards as quickly as possible. But that isn’t all the challenge – players only know what their next treasure is after they find the one before it. And before each turn, a maze card is played into the maze, which means the maze constantly shifts and changes after each turn, helping some and leaving others lost. One to four players recommended.
My Tips: The manufacturer age recommendation is 7+ however, my 4.5 year old just recently learned how to play properly and loves it. This is a great strategy game, for the younger ones, like my son, we let him look at all five of his cards and he can find any one he wants in any order. The rest of us play by the instructions. This is also a fantastic strategy game for adults to play with their kids. Since the board is always changing, it will take longer for the adult to get bored. Get Labyrinth, you won’t be disappointed!
Mfg. Product Description: Cauldron Quest – A Magical Game of Potions and Spells! The Evil Wizard has cast a spell to destroy the kingdom! In this game from the award-winning design team at Peaceable Kingdom, players try to work together to create a potion to break the evil Wizard’s spell. Everyone is trying to find the hidden ingredients to make the potion to destroy the spell. But work quickly – you have to find them all before the Wizard blocks off all the paths; if you succeed, everyone wins! Game includes 1 game board, 6 potion bottles, 6 cauldron ingredients, 6 path blockers, 1 spell breaker token, 1 wizard hat with stand, 2 white action dice, 3 black magic dice and instructions for game play.
My Tips: Although this game is recommended for 6+, again my younger guy can play this game and loves to, as long as there is someone else there that can read. And even with that being said, at four years old, he has been able to pick up enough of the game to make up his own solo version. This game for an adult is fun the first couple of times, and then you will be wanting your child to make up their own solo version too!
Mfg. Product Description: It’s fun, it’s challenging, it’s exciting, it’s Sequence. Watch out for the Jacks, they are wild. With a little strategy and luck, you’ll be a winner. Contents: Folding Game Board, 2 Decks of Sequence Cards, 135 Playing Chips and Instructions. My Tips: Sequence is s super fun game for older children through adults. This is definitely a fun adult game to play together once the kids are down for the night.
Mfg. Product Description: It’s no surprise that Rummikub is so popular–it has all the elements that make a great game: it’s easy to learn and fast-moving, it’s different every time it’s played, it combines luck and strategy, and it changes quickly so every player has a chance to win until the very end. And with more than 50 million units sold, Rummikub is one of the world’s best-selling, and most-played, games. Players take turns placing numbered tiles in runs (consecutive numbers of the same color, like 2, 3, 4 in red) and groups (three or more of the same number in different colors, like a red 9, a blue 9, and a black 9), rummy style. It’s easy to learn, but packed with strategy–the “board” changes all the time as players adjust the tiles on the table. The Joker tiles add to the fun; they can be any color or number. The object is to be the first player to play every tile on your rack. Players keep track of who wins each round–the player who wins the most rounds wins this time-tested tile game (there’s also a point system for use as a tie-breaker). Rummikub is ideal for people of different ages to play together, and it’s great for a game night too. It’s got lots of exciting moments, but it’s also designed to bring people together, with plenty of opportunities for talking, chatting, and sharing with family and friends. Rummikub includes 106 high-quality plastic tiles, 4 plastic tile-holder racks, and illustrated instructions. For 2 or more players ages 8 and up.
My Tips: My aunt got me hooked on this game. This is another great game for a group of adults to play together. When camping with family and it’s rainy and/or cold, this is the game for all to gather around a table (hopefully inside) and play a few games of Rummikub!
Mfg. Product Description: UNO is the classic card game of matching colors and numbers that is easy to pick up…impossible to put down and now comes with customizable Wild Cards for added excitement! Players take turns racing to get rid of all their cards by matching a card in their hand with the current card shown on top of the deck either by color or number. Special Action cards deliver game-changing moments and help defeat opponents! Use the Swap Hands card to change hands with any other opponent and write your own rules using the 3 customizable (and erasable) Wild Cards! You’ll find 19 of each color (red, green, blue, and yellow), plus 8 Draw Two, Reverse and Skip cards in every color, along with 4 Wild Cards, 4 Wild Draw Four cards, 1 Wild Swap Hands Card and 3 Wild Customizable cards. If you can’t make a match, you must draw from the central pile! Don’t forget to shout “UNO” when you only have one card remaining! The player to rid themselves of all the cards in their hand scores points for any cards their opponents are left holding.
My Tips: An easy to learn and fun card game. It’s small and so it’s easy to travel. The recommended age is 7+ however, younger kids could play it but they may have a hard time holding all the cards. A Playing card holder may be easier to use for little ones.
